Meghalaya is a state in northeast India. The name means "the abode of clouds" . The population of Meghalaya as of 2016 is estimated to be 3,211,474. Meghalaya covers an area of approximately 22,430 square kilometers, with a length to breadth ratio of about 3:1. The state is bounded to the south by the Bangladeshi divisions of Mymensingh and Sylhet, to the west by the Bangladeshi division of Rangpur, and to the north and east by India's State of Assam. The capital of Meghalaya is Shillong. During the British rule of India, the British imperial authorities nicknamed it the "Scotland of the East".Meghalaya was previously part of Assam, but on 21 January 1972, the districts of Khasi, Garo and Jaintia hills became the new state of Meghalaya. English is the official language of Meghalaya. The other principal languages spoken include Khasi, Pnar, Hajong, Rabha, Garo and Biate. Unlike many Indian states, Meghalaya has historically followed a matrilineal system where the lineage and inheritance are traced through women; the youngest daughter inherits all wealth and she also takes care of her parents. The state is the wettest region of India, recording an average of 12,000 mm (470 in) of rain a year.About 70% of the state is forested.(Credit - Wikipedia) Tourist places in Meghalaya Mawlynnong- the cleanest village in Asia Mawphlang- Secret Forest/ Khasi Heritage Village Kyllang Rock-Moirang Double dacker roots bridge-Nongriat David Scott Trail Living root bridge,Mawlynnong Smit Laithlum Marngar Lake,Riboi Nartiang Monoliths Tamabil- Indo-Bangladesh Border Mawlongbna Jakrem Hot water spring Bophills Falls Dawki river Umngot Butterfly Museum Umiam lake Elephant Falls Arwah cave Balpakram national Park(south Garo Hills) Siju Cave(dobakol) Pa Togan N.Sangma Park(chisobibra) Don bosco museum Mattiland Amusement park thrill Fun Park-umroi karangsuri falls-Jaintia Hills Seven Sister Falls-Cherapunjee Eco park-Cherapunjee Rhino Heritage Museum,Shillong Air Force Museum,Shillong Central State Library,Shillong Shillong View Point/Shillong Peak Golflink,Shillong Lady Hyderi Park,Shillong Syntung Eco Tourism thangkhrang park, cherapunjee Sohpetbneng Peak sweet falls cherapunjee Police Bazar,Shillong Iewduh, Bara Bazar,Shillong Syntu Ksiar,Jowai. Dawki trip was the part of our 5 days road trip to beautiful Meghalaya. We traveled to Meghalaya while we were on our Northeast India Trip. The primary attraction here was the Umngot river of Meghalaya. Please do subscribe to Jaunt Monkey: https://goo.gl/4HZaUq This is about our Dawki Road Trip from Shillong in Meghalaya. Dawki Trip: Meghalaya crystal clear river, living root bridge Meghalaya, and Mawlynnong village During this trip we experienced Umngot river, living root bridge of Meghalaya, and the cleanest Asian village. Our experience on the 3rd day in Meghalaya was so vibrant and lovely. We started off from Shillong by Meghalaya Tourism's organized tours (government tour). The first stop that we enjoyed during this trip was Deep Dark Valley. The valley and hillocks where amazingly lush. From there we moved on to the living root bridge to the cleanest Asian village, and to the crystal clear river. What we had experienced in Meghalaya was mindblowing and that made our decision to plan another Meghalaya Road Trip or better say Meghalaya Bike Trip in September 2018.
